Assessment & Reports

Assessment at St Peter’s school

Take a look below at our 'SPES Sticky Knowledge and Knowing more, remembering more leaflet'.

"St Peter's Eaton square is amazing for education. we don't just let the learning go from the previous year, we have sticky knowledge that makes you remember it"
Pasquale - year 5

Statutory tests

Year 1:
In the Summer term, children sit their national phonics screening check which tests them on their knowledge of graphemes.
Year 4:
In the Summer term, children sit the national multiplication check which tests them on the speed and accuracy of timetables up to 12 x 12.
Year 6:
In the Summer term, children sit their SATs tests for reading, maths and grammar.

The results of all these tests are communicated to parents/ carers in the end-of-year school reports.

Early Years

Pupils in Reception complete their statutory baseline line assessment with the teacher, looking at a range of basic skills. Throughout the year in EYFS we track assessments using Sonar which allows us to use online assessments to track pupil milestones and achievements and to support us in completing the end of year profile document for this age group.

Key Stages 1 and 2

From Year 1 to Year 6 we also use Sonar which enables us to track and analyse pupil progress towards mastery of the expected end-of-year age-related English and Maths skills.

In addition, we use SATs test booklets and PUMA and PIRA booklets to provide nationally benchmarked standardised and age-standardised scores for pupils in Reading, Grammar and Maths.

Pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 undertake spellings and/or timestable tests weekly.

Phonics

Pupils in Reception and Year 1 undertake regular phonic (letter sounds) assessments as part of our Read Write Inc reading programme.

Pupil Progress meetings.

In the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms the Senior Leadership team meets with each teacher to discuss the accuracy of individual pupil attainment and progress.

We discuss expected progress and whether children are on track for end of year goals. This process of mapping and tracking pupil progress allows teachers and SLT to maintain high aspirations for progress and, where necessary, to consider appropriate and timely interventions to ensure progress. This robust model provides essential information for lesson planning, resource allocation, parent consultations and end of year reports.

Reporting to Parents

End of Year School Report

Throughout the year there are parent consultation evenings, at which teachers update parents as the year progresses. Parents too have an opportunity to look through their children's work during our monthly 'book look mornings'. Finally, parents receive an end of year report in the Summer Term.
