Computing Curriculum Overview

INTENT - Our Curriculum Intent

Our computing curriculum is designed to equip students from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to Year 6 with essential digital literacy, computational thinking, and online safety skills. We aim to foster a deep understanding and responsible use of technology, empowering students to navigate and innovate in an increasingly digital world. Our curriculum is structured as a spiral curriculum, ensuring that key skills and concepts are revisited and reinforced at each stage of education. We place a strong emphasis on online behaviour, balancing media use, and empowering children through technology.

IMPLEMENTATION – How We Will Deliver Our Curriculum

Our spiral curriculum ensures continuity and progression from EYFS through to Year 6. Each half term, students engage in large block computing lessons for a week, allowing them to become fully immersed in the subject and develop a thorough understanding of each topic. Our computing lead is a Google-trained teacher who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our program while working alongside classroom teachers to enhance lesson delivery. We enrich children’s overall learning experience by showcasing students' learning in other subject areas through digital projects and presentations. Children also have the opportunity to join our pupil-led online safety committee, empowering students to take an active role in promoting safe and responsible online behaviour among their peers.

IMPACT – How We Will Evaluate Our Curriculum

The impact of our computing curriculum is evident in the confident and competent digital citizens we nurture. By revisiting key skills and concepts regularly, students develop a strong foundation in computing, which prepares them for future academic and professional endeavours. Our emphasis on online safety and responsible media use ensures that students are not only skilled in using technology but also understand the importance of digital well-being.
