Curriculum & Learning
All subject lessons follow the National Curriculum.
Here at St Peter's Eaton Square C of E Primary School we pride ourselves on our text rich, diverse and broad curriculum.
Our Curriculum Intent
At St. Peter's Eaton Square, our curriculum development is driven by a commitment to provide the best educational experiences for our students. We have meticulously crafted each subject unit to encapsulate key learning, we term this as "sticky knowledge." This foundational understanding serves as the bedrock upon which students build their academic journey.
Our curriculum is not just a linear progression of topics; it's a dynamic spiral that encourages revisiting concepts to deepen understanding and create more neural pathways. Through this approach, students engage in a continuous process of learning and reinforcement, ensuring that knowledge is not only acquired but also retained over time.
Central to our philosophy is the integration of research-based practices into our teaching methods. We draw upon insights from researchers such as Rosenshine, Willingham, and Shirley Clarke to inform our instructional strategies. By incorporating evidence-based techniques such as explicit instruction, formative assessment, and spaced repetition, we create an environment that maximises pupil learning outcomes.
Regular review questions, such as our "knowing more, remembering more" questions, are embedded into our curriculum to reinforce key concepts and promote long-term retention. These practices ensure that our students not only acquire knowledge but also develop the critical thinking skills and deep understanding necessary for success in an ever-changing world.
At St. Peter's Eaton Square, we are dedicated to empowering our students with the tools they need to excel academically and thrive in their future endeavours. Our curriculum is not just a collection of subjects and topics; it's a carefully woven tapestry that celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of our school, church, and wider community. Rooted in the principles of inclusivity and individuality, our curriculum places every child at the heart of learning.
Aligned with the national curriculum, our curriculum goes beyond academic achievement to foster the holistic development of every child, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We aim to break barriers and challenge stereotypes, providing opportunities for all students to develop essential life skills, cultural capital, and a strong sense of identity.
