St Peter's Eaton Square is committed to being a Rights Respecting school. We've achieved the BRONZE Rights Respecting School Award and are actively working towards the SILVER award.
 

We're integrating the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into our school's policies, practices, and values. Beyond teaching pupils’ rights, our aim is to model respect throughout school life. This approach helps pupils understand their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of respecting others’ rights. At St Peter's Eaton Square, everyone (pupils and adults) upholds, protects, and promotes children’s rights. Our focus is on fostering acceptance of diversity and providing a foundation of respect.

Our pursuit of the Silver Rights Respecting Award is aimed at nurturing confident, caring, and responsible young citizens within both our school and the wider community.

The UNCRC identifies four key areas for children to thrive:

1. Right to survive and be healthy.
2. Protection from harm and abuse.
3. Holistic development—physical, mental, and social.
4. Active participation as engaged citizens.

Key UNCRC Articles include:

Article 12: Every child has the right to express their opinions, which should be taken seriously.

Article 13: Children have the freedom to express thoughts and access information within the law.

Article 28: Children have the right to education. Primary education should be free and secondary education accessible to all. Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity, and wealthier nations should support poorer ones in achieving educational equality.

Article 29: Education should nurture pupils' personalities, talents, respect for human rights, cultures, parents, and the environment.
